When we first started All You Can Arcade, it was a bit on religion. We were confident that individuals would want to let arcade games from the month, but truth be toldwe had no idea how to work on them. Before we knew it our launch was a month off and we'd managed to collect about 100 matches, but only 10 of them worked!
All of our monitors would display a scrambled picture on the screen. It was super frustrating since we had no idea how to fix it. We almost missed our launching, but we finally clued in on what was causing our probablem once we learned about monitor sync 101 and recognized that they occasionally have to get hooked up differently based on the match. On that day, we have to have turned on at least 20 games, we had already put a good deal of hard work into, but had been missing this last piece of the puzzle so as to have the ability to play them. This very small chunk of knowledge, gave us the games we had to get started and was sufficient to keep us motivated to continue learning how to correct problems.
Five years later, I still spend more time studying arcade fix, then I ever spent studying in school and the education continues to pay off.
For the previous couple of years, we've had an average bug that is slipped into our fleet.
To solve the symptom, we'd boost the energy source to operate hot which would be good for another 3 to six months before the power supplies would burn . After running into this puzzle a few times, we began to put the matches into deep storage until we could find out why they kept failing. Because we presumed, it had been caused by poor circuit boards hoping to draw too much energy, we overlooked something much more evident.

. Well todayour Mortal Kombat 2 started to exhibit the very same symptoms
and quite honestly if we pull that one by the fleet, our customers will riot, so I sat down to get to the origin of the case of the fall in voltage.
To do this I took my voltage meter, measured the electricity at the power source and then started tracing the 5V line and measuring where I could touch wire. When I measured the power before it went into the edge connector, I noticed that the voltage had already dropped. I suspected the connector between the wire and the power source. The moment I crimped on the end of the line to put to a new one, I instantly noticed what my problem was.
We love getting a good deal and I'd be willing to bet you a quarter, that you cannot find a better bargain on the jamma harnesses which we purchase. Unfortunately, it looks like we may have gotten what we paid for them.
From the outside, the tap looks as though it uses a thick 18 gauge cable to run the power to the board. That is a whole lot of metal to conduct a small quantity of voltage. It's a part of why I suspected that it was our culprit.
As soon as you open it up though, it is possible to see that from the exterior it seems 18 gauge, but on the inside it is short quite a bit of metal. The solution was simple, run a thicker wire from the power source to the tap and Voila! Mortal Kombat 2 back up and running, just in time for our free play arcade at the Jack of All Trade showthis weekend.
While this simple bug should have been spotted earlier and has caused us a great deal of headaches, it's also extremely exciting to work out the source of our problem and to understand that with very little work, we've got another 20 amazing matches back on our site . Hopefully, other people who've run into similar trouble, can save themselves the exact same aggravation by A.) double assessing the wire you're using when you can't receive your voltage to travel directly from the power supply to your circuit boards and B.) paying only slightly better quality jamma harnesses.
